Interior Painting: 7 Tips for Painting Your Kitchen

by | Dec 15, 2019 | Uncategorized

The kitchen is one of the most frequently used rooms in your home, so when you are looking at interior painting in Amador County, CA, it makes sense that it might be one of the first places you look to re-paint.

Painting the kitchen yourself can be a daunting task, but getting some good information and having a little patience, makes it easier.

Seven tips and tricks for painting your kitchen.

1. Choosing The Right Sheen

The kitchen sees a lot of dirt, grime, grease, and if you have children, the occasional finger painting from the young artists in your home looking to express themselves with crayon and marker on the wall.

You’re going to want a wall paint that has enough sheen to make cleaning easier, and a high quality line to withstand heavy scrubbing.

If you expect to do a lot of this type of cleaning it makes sense to use a satin or semi-gloss finish.

2. How To Make Your Kitchen Feel Bigger

There are many colors to choose from when painting your kitchen and each color can have a different impact on the mood or feel of the kitchen.

Though it might not work well for your entire house, using white in the kitchen might be good as it can give the room a larger, airy feel.

Also, white is our most popular color for kitchen cabinet painting.

3. Get The Appetite’s Going With Color

You might be surprised to find out that the color of your kitchen walls can have an impact on your appetite.

It has been found that both yellow and red have the biggest impact and that having a kitchen that is painted one of these colors, will improve appetites. In addition to that Yellow has been known to crate a welcoming space so it’s a great choice if you are always hosting friends and family.

4. Clear The Counters

Before you start painting the kitchen remove your salt shakers, spices, appliances and everything else on the counter to another room.

If you do not move it then painting the area between the counter and the upper cabinets will be much more difficult.

Plus it provides a good opportunity to deep clean your counter-tops while everything is off of them.

5. Cover The Floors and Cabinets

Shinier, better paints are harder to clean off of surfaces after they dry. Making sure everything is covered before you start saves a lot of cleanup at the end.

It will give you a better finished job and save time if you keep the paint off of the surfaces you don’t want painted!

6. Clean The Walls

Cooking can be a messy ordeal. Even if you are careful when you cook a small amount of grease attached to the steam.

Over time, it’s not uncommon to see that grease builds up on the wall behind the stove and on the ceiling directly above the stove.

Use a good – paint safe – degreaser prior to painting to remove the grease. If you don’t, there won’t be good adhesion in those areas, and the paint may even separate and leave a blemish.

7. Use A Quality Roller Cover

Unless you do this every day, you wouldn’t know that the roller cover you use makes a big difference.

Cheap roller covers will produce more paint splatter as you’re rolling and need to be dipped more frequently so it actually takes longer to paint a room.

A high quality microfiber roller will apply the paint more consistently and splatter less.
